How to Uninstall the OpenClaw Gateway

I have spent a lot of time manually deleting hidden folders and killing background processes after testing new tools. It is frustrating when a simple removal does not actually clean up the system.

I prefer a clean environment where I know exactly what is running. If you want to remove the OpenClaw gateway service and its local data, the CLI provides a direct command. This removes the service and data, but the CLI itself remains on your machine.

  • OpenClaw CLI
  • Terminal access

Removing the gateway service is a fast process. You can handle the cleanup in two steps:

  1. Run the standard uninstall command to stop the service:
Terminal window
openclaw uninstall
  1. Use specific flags for automation or testing:
  • openclaw uninstall --dry-run: See what will happen without deleting any files.
  • openclaw uninstall --all --yes: Remove all local data and skip the confirmation prompt.

The source documentation does not list any known issues for this command. If you run into trouble, I suggest using the --dry-run flag to check for potential permission errors before the actual removal.
