Managing Multi-Channel AI Agents with a Single Gateway

I often find myself jumping between different chat apps just to keep up with messages. It gets even more tiring when I try to bring AI agents into those conversations. Managing separate integrations for every platform is a headache, and keeping track of different session histories across apps is almost impossible.

I want a way to centralize these interactions. This gateway approach lets me connect multiple platforms to a single point, so I can use my agents where I already spend my time.

Before you start, make sure you have the following requirements from the supported integrations:

  • WhatsApp: An active account for Baileys integration.
  • Telegram: A bot token via grammY.
  • Discord: Bot credentials for discord.js.
  • macOS: Required if you plan to use iMessage via the local imsg CLI.
  • Mattermost: Access to install the required plugin.
  • AI Accounts: Anthropic or OpenAI accounts for OAuth subscription authentication.

You can get your gateway running by following these steps to connect your channels and agents.

  1. Connect your Channels: Choose your primary platforms. You can link WhatsApp Web, set up Telegram and Discord bots, or use the local iMessage CLI on macOS.
  2. Set up the Agent Bridge: Connect to Pi in RPC mode. This is currently the supported path for coding agents and includes tool streaming.
  3. Configure Routing: Set up multi-agent routing. This ensures that sessions are isolated per workspace or sender, so your conversations don’t get mixed up.
  4. Launch the UI: Open the Web Control UI or the macOS menu bar app to monitor your connections.

If you are on mobile, you can use the iOS or Android nodes. These support pairing and provide a Canvas surface for interacting with your agents.

If you run into issues, check these common points from the documentation:

Missing Agent Paths If you are looking for legacy Claude, Codex, Gemini, or Opencode paths, they are no longer available. I recommend using the Pi path for all coding agent tasks.

Message Formatting If responses feel slow, ensure your setup supports streaming and chunking. The gateway uses these to handle long responses without timing out.

Group Chat Activation If your agent isn’t responding in a group chat, remember that group support is mention-based. The agent will only activate when specifically called.

If you have specific questions about your configuration, check out the AI Setup Assistant.
